In a bid to optimize the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smooth traffic flow at toll plazas, NHAI has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. This initiative aims to discourage the utilization of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the association of multiple FASTags with a specific vehicle, as outlined in an official statement.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is actively promoting FASTag users to undergo the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for their latest FASTag, aligning with RBI guidelines.

To prevent any inconvenience, users are urged to ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTag. Additionally, the statement emphasizes compliance with the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ principle, prompting users to discard any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.

“Post January 31, 2024, only the most recent FASTag account will remain active, with previous tags facing deactivation or blacklisting,” states the official communication.

Guidelines for updating KYC for FASTag:

  1. Visit the official FASTag website.
  2. Log in using your mobile number and the OTP received on your phone.
  3. Navigate to the “My Profile” section on the homepage and access the KYC tab.
  4. Provide all necessary details and click the submit button.

Necessary documents for FASTag KYC include a vehicle Registration Certificate, Identity proof, Address proof, and a passport-size photo.

Checking your FASTag status:

  1. Visit fastag.ihmcl.com.
  2. Click on the Login tab situated at the top right of the page.
  3. Log in using OTP and enter your registered mobile number.
  4. Select the “My Profile” section on the dashboard to check the KYC status of your FASTag.

Understanding FASTag: FASTag, an electronic toll collection system, streamlines the toll payment process at highway toll plazas. Affixed to the car’s windscreen, the FASTag is linked to a bank account or prepaid card. Employing RFID technology, the toll is automatically deducted as a FASTag-equipped vehicle approaches the toll booth.

On the 29th of January, the state-owned NHAI declared that FASTags holding valid balances yet lacking complete KYC will face deactivation by banks after January 31, 2024.
